The Profession of Faith

This course is based on Pillar One of The Catechism of the Catholic Church, students will explore the deeper meaning behind the words professed in the Nicene Creed and in the Apostle's Creed. Lessons will focus on the nature and origin of the formulas used in the Creed noting the contributions of early Christian writers. This course will also address the traditional role of the Creed in the catechumenate and baptismal liturgy, as well as expanded roles in safeguarding the Faith from heresies and other philosophical currents of thought. Finally, several lessons will examine the content of Catholic Doctrine as it is developed in the First Pillar of the Catechism. Students who successfully complete this course should be able to use their knowledge of the Creed to evangelize more confidently.

Course Objective: Those who complete this course should be able to summarize the evolution of the statement of beliefs expressed in the Creed of the Catholic Church, describe the various roles of the Creed, and explain the twelve articles of the Creed.
